Every year, in honor of Thanksgiving, Park View continues its decades-old tradition of having one teacher dress up as a turkey the day before Thanksgiving break. This year, social studies teacher Ms. Emily Quinn was selected for the role.

Ms. Quinn was one of six teachers nominated by the Student Council Association to be a contender for the suit. The winner was chosen through cans donated to each candidate’s cart in the cafeteria.

There was no clear indication of who was going to win this year, even at the end. The three main contenders were band director Mr. Morton, math teacher Mrs. Marsh, and Ms. Quinn. However, each of the candidates had conspirators who attempted to sway the odds in their favor. Many band students attempted to coordinate donations towards Morton’s rise as the turkey, Mu Alpha Theta members attempted to bring in Marsh, but most unexpected were those who took it upon themselves to ensure Quinn’s victory. “There’s a bunch of her teacher friends who bought a lot of stuff to put in her cart because they want[ed] to see her in the turkey suit,” said Mrs. Marsh. According to Ms. Quinn, the teachers in question were actually the math department, who intended to “save Mrs. Marsh by sacrificing me. Literally, because I’m the turkey.”

While not entirely grateful to have been chosen, Quinn nonetheless came in dressed as the turkey and managed to be a good sport about it. Said Quinn, “While I don’t love the idea of being a turkey, I think it’s a great cause, and it’s just another thing that shows our school spirit.”
